Mr. MacGregor’s Garden

So here’s the reason we named our bunnies Peter and Flopsy. Our next door neighbor is literally a farmer named Mr. MacGregor!

Sacramento is historically an agricultural community. 100 years ago our area was all farmland. Our house was built next to a dairy farm. It’s no longer active, but acres of fields with fruit trees, barns, and windmills remain. I look out into the fields, and old chicken houses, from my kitchen window. (This makes me SO happy, and I know how lucky I am!) Mr. McGregor generously allows my kids to hunt for bugs in the fields, and me to “borrow” figs and plums from the trees in the summer. We really couldn’t name our bunnies anything else!

Rabbits

Orphaned Bunnies

We found our rabbits on the street, next to a fresh pile of chopped up carrots. Someone had loved them, but couldn’t take care of them anymore. These bunnies were so sweet and tame. They practically hopped up to us and begged to be adopted. There was no way we could leave them on the street. Obviously we had no choice!
